PRE-K and UPK: Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) is a New York State funded program specifically designed for 4-year-olds not eligible for kindergarten. Each year, the Central Islip School District invites eligible children who reside in the district to enter into our PRE-K lottery. Please call the Alfano Elementary School at 631-348-5139 for additional information on the PRE-K Lottery and Enrollment.

KINDERGARTEN: For kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before December 1 to be eligible to register.

GRADE 1: New York State Education Law (Section 3205) states that children who turn 6 years old on or before December 1 are required to attend instruction in September of that school year. Children who turn 6 years old after December 1 are required to attend school the following September.
