The use of the School District’s computer resources are a privilege. It is expected that all individuals using the District’s computers will take responsibility for their actions and words, and will respect the rights and privileges of all network users. Students are responsible for appropriate behavior on the school’s computer network just as they are in a classroom, hallway or on school grounds. No student under 18 years of age will use the internet without the signed parent consent form being on file. Every parent must also sign their child’s planner to indicate permission for their child’s use of the internet and their knowledge of this Code of Conduct. Every student must sign his/her planner to indicate knowledge of and compliance with this Code of Conduct and must present it to appropriate staff for internet or computer use. Every user must adhere to the Central Islip Public Schools Acceptance Use Policy.
Violations of this Acceptance Use Policy may result in loss of network and/or computer privileges, or suspension thereof: and possible legal action. Violations of the Central Islip Public Schools Acceptable Use Policy include, but are not limited to, the infractions listed below, and each will be subject to the consequences listed below:
Category 1 Infractions
- Sharing password or account.
- Impersonation, anonymity, or use of pseudonym.
- Failure to follow directive to delete mail or documents to conserve the space.
Category 1 Consequences
- Administrative Referral Possible Actions Suspension of computer and/or internet use Detention(s)
- After-School Detention(s) In-School Suspensions Suspension(s) Superintendent’s Hearing Police/Court Action
Category 2 Infractions
- Offensive or inflammatory speech.
- Profanity, pornography, obscenity.
- Plagiarism, violation of copyright law.
- Misappropriation of another’s files, data or property.
- Use of computers for illegal activities or for commercial gain.
- Damage, abuse, or breakage of the hardware, software or network.
- Willful spread of computer viruses.
- Unauthorized installation or downloading of software.
- Unauthorized exploration or changes to any system files.
Category 2 Consequences
- Administrative Referral Possible Actions Suspension and/or loss of computer use. Superintendent’s Hearing.
- Police/Court Action.
