Incoming kindergarten students who will be entering school for the first time in September, we're given an introductory tour of the School District.

Approximately 150 children and their parents or guardians arrived at Alfano Elementary School on July 22, where each student was greeted by staff members and received a backpack and hand sanitizer. Parents and guardians also received folders containing information about school attendance, school lunch forms, and a pen and pad for note taking about their children entering Kindergarten.

Mrs. Yvette Rivera, Central Registration and Residency Administrator, welcomed guests and briefed them about the importance of good attendance, nutrition, and school protocols. Each child, accompanied by a parent/guardian, boarded a school bus provided by Suffolk Transportation Service, for a riding bus tour of all elementary schools across the District. Dr. Mariana Gil, Administrator for Bilingual and ENL Services, was also on hand to greet the families and welcome them to the District.

Students and their families were also greeted with a simple reception of snacks and juice. Mrs. Rivera acknowledged the work of Mr. Paul Carlozzo, the District's Food Service Director for making accommodations for the reception, and Suffolk Transportation Service for making buses available for the tour.

Also attending the event were New York State Assemblyman Phil Ramos who encouraged children to participate in a summer reading club, and Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez, who took the bus tour with the students and their parents/guardians.

Each child also received a Class of 2035, (the year they will graduate high school) tee shirt which they proudly wore.
