Amid the continuing pain associated with the September 11th anniversary each year, we want to use this time to honor the real heroes of that day.

The brave first responders who ran into danger to defend those they vowed to guard but never came home to their families. Those who spent weeks or months digging amid the fallen debris with little concern for their safety, only to learn years later the cost of their service.

Many people in our school community knew someone who died that day or was killed by the illness that ravaged them after serving at the World Trade Center site. For many of us, twenty years seemed like a lifetime ago. This anniversary serves as a timely reminder for us all to remember the heroes and victims of that terrible day.

We are a country that so many seek to find a better life. We do not seek other nations for solitude; we give others solitude.  Let us never forget!

Sincerely,

Mr. Norman A. Wagner
Board of Education President

Ms. Sharon A. Dungee
Superintendent of Schools
