Eighth grade students enrolled in Joseph Cornell's Full Year Technology Course at Reed Middle School received a visit from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee recently. Mr. Cornell and his students guided Dr. Dungee, (and Reed Middle School Principal Mr. Anthony Coggiano who was also present), on a tour of their classroom and the curriculum of special projects which they are engaged in creating. Students are exposed to all facets of modern technology that exist in their world. They also create woodworking projects by hand and are exposed to computer programming where they also learn to create their own games. Students learn how to 3D print, design original T-shirts and stickers using a vinyl cutter, and create custom works of art using a CNC laser machine and laser engraver. This course prepares students for all courses that would be taken at the high school including graphic design, coding, and wood shop. Dr. Dungee commended Mr. Cornell for his work ethic and inspiring his students to create their remarkable, high-quality projects, noting how technology is weaved into their original pieces of work.
