Memorial Day Parade
The Central Islip Community came together for the Memorial Day Parade to remember our troops and heroes who have served or made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve America's freedoms. In a fitting memorial tribute, the circular drive to Alfano Elementary School was renamed Norman Wagner Way in memory of Mr. Wagner for his decades of service to our community. Mr. Wagner was President of the Board of Education, President of the Central Islip Public Library, and member of the Knights of Columbus. Recognition was also posthumously given to the family of School Board member Dan Devine by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee. A special presentation was made by Director of Music Mr. Philip Voigt to Central Islip High School Band teacher, Mr. Steve Muller, as he prepares to retire.

Serving as Grand Marshal was Colonel Jack Cassidy. Born and raised in Central Islip, and after graduating college, Mr. Cassidy joined the US Marine Corps and was a member of an elite recon unit. He led a raid which freed South Vietnamese soldiers from a Vietcong POW Camp and was awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, The Purple Heart and other US and foreign decorations. Upon his return home, Mr. Cassidy served the Central Islip Community for over three decades as an educator and administrator. He was a teacher, a coach, and subsequently served 20 years as Principal of Reed Junior High School.  Mr. Cassidy and his wife, Susan, have three children and four grandchildren.
