Sixth Grade Students from Mulligan Elementary School recently demonstrated pride for their community by taking an active role in the KIC (Keep Islip Clean) initiative. Students cleaned the area of their community at Half Mile Road from Reed Middle School to the Stop Sign on Hawthorne, as well as the passthrough between Mulligan Elementary School and Reed Middle School. Mulligan Elementary School Principal, Mr. Brett MacMonigle, said students were happy to take part in the KIC initiative, which teaches them the importance of properly disposing of garbage, as well as instilling a sense of pride in their community. Superintendent of Schools, Ms. Sharon A. Dungee, noted the importance of KIC and the important connection between Central Islip Schools and the Town of Islip for hands-on environmental and art programs where students, in cooperation with their teachers, receive beneficial lessons.
