Congratulations to Dr. Nicole Lefferts who, upon successful completion of her dissertation about The Effects of Mentoring on the Self-Efficacy of School Aged Girls of Color, has obtained her Doctorate of Education in Administration and Supervision in May of 2023 from St. John’s University.
Dr. Lefferts earned her Bachelor of Arts in Science and Education from Mount St. Mary's College, a Master of Arts in Education from SUNY Stony Brook, and a post-masters administrative certificate in School Building and School District Leadership.
Dr. Lefferts came to Central Islip School District in 2007 where she began teaching at Morrow Elementary School. She subsequently taught at Cordello Elementary School until 2021 when, upon Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee's recommendation, the Board of Education appointed Dr. Lefferts as Assistant Principal where she shared responsibilities between Alfano and Morrow elementary schools. In 2022, Dr. Lefferts was appointed Assistant Principal of Mulligan Elementary School where she is presently serving her second year in this role.
Noting the most rewarding part of her job is getting acquainted with and forming bonds with her students and their families, Dr. Lefferts stated, Over the years, I've built great relationships with my students and the families of Central Islip, and I'm grateful to still maintain communication with several students who have graduated or moved on.
As an administrator, Dr. Lefferts said her goals include maintaining camaraderie and effective networking between faculty and staff members, and working together to ensure students develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
Dr. Lefferts loves spending time with her husband, Don, and their 10-month-old daughter, Billie. During her spare time, she enjoys cooking for her family and friends.
