Streaming Video Policy

I want to clarify that the request for access to paid streaming or broadcast streaming services—such as Prime, Disney+, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Paramount, and similar platforms—violates Federal Law under the FCC Copyright regulations. This includes any streaming services that are provided "free" with an account. The "free" access to these platforms is subject to the same FCC License Agreement as paid services.

The district supports and recommends using YouTube for your streaming needs. YouTube offers a wide range of publicly available media that is suitable for classroom use. All content available on YouTube, including broadcast TV shows and private media permitted for streaming, can be used in an educational setting.

As per district policy and the Streaming End User agreements with each streaming service or cable provider, these services are not permitted on the Central Islip School District network.

For more information, please review Central Islip Board of Education Policy 4526R, Acceptable Use Policy – Section V, Subsection 23, which outlines these restrictions:

Privately licensed streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime, iTunes Music/Movies, Hulu, Showtime, HBO, Starz, etc.) are strictly prohibited for use in education as these services are not under the “Fair Use” law as per the individual license agreements between individual user and service. These copyrighted broadcasts may not be used in public and educational settings and therefore are strictly prohibited on the district network.

Please note that while broadcast TV (NBC, ABC, CBS, etc.) is generally permissible for use in public settings, it is only accessible on district devices through their official YouTube channels rather than their respective websites.
