CHAMPS! Girls Badminton Doubles Wins First Ever County Championship

The Girls Varsity Badminton Doubles team of Jennifer Arias and Jearmi Rosario made history by winning the Section XI Suffolk County Badminton Doubles Championship on Tuesday, May 14.

This victory marks the first championship in the eight-year history of varsity badminton at Central Islip.

Seeded first in the 30-team bracket, Arias and Rosario defeated Northport’s Erin Klein and Sophia Bettano with scores of 21-15 and 21-16 in the championship match.

“These girls deserve it,” said Head Coach Michael Gudema. “Once they won, they didn’t know what to do with themselves. It sunk in shortly after, and it shows how humble they are. I couldn’t be happier for them.”

"Their remarkable teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship were on full display throughout the tournament, culminating in a hard-fought and well-deserved victory in the finals," Athletic Director Trish Lectora said. "This accomplishment not only reflects their personal commitment to excellence but also highlights the strength and spirit of our athletic program."
