September 2022

Dear Central Islip Families and School Community,

An Unknown author once said, "Don't be afraid of new beginnings. Don't shy away from new people, energy, and surroundings. Embrace new chances at happiness." Welcome Back to the 2022-2023 School Year, Central Isip!

We look forward to seeing all of our returning students. We want to extend a very special welcome to our new Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and students joining the Central Islip School District for the first time.

This year will be filled with exciting and inspiring educational opportunities for our students. There will be a focused emphasis on academics, technology, athletics, music, and the arts as we continue building an enriching learning environment for all students to excel and succeed to the best of their abilities. We want our students to grow through inspiring educational experiences and friendships they will make in school.

Education and learning empower us with the knowledge that will allow us to appreciate and improve our constantly changing global society. The Board of Education, Administration, Faculty, Staff, and I look forward to a continued partnership between home and school. This is absolutely vital as we work together to build a solid foundation upon which our students will thrive and develop into their best selves. Through powerful teaching strategies, we in Central Islip Schools are committed to guiding our students to achieve their best in academics and life endeavors. Perhaps Benjamin Franklin summed it up best with this famous quote: "Tell me, and I forget. Teach me, and I remember. Involve me, and I learn."

Maintaining a safe and secure school environment for students, staff, and visitors is paramount throughout our School District. We continue to practice zero tolerance policies to deter adverse behaviors. Conversely, we promote positive behavior and encourage mutual respect for all in our buildings and on school grounds.

As the academic year progresses and any questions arise, please feel welcome to contact your child's school. Updated information on important school events, Board of Education meetings, parent-teacher conferences, parent-teacher association activities, weather-related delays or closures, and other pertinent data are available on the District website, District calendar, forthcoming newsletters, and social media platforms.

On behalf of the Board of Education, Administration, Faculty, and Staff, welcome back to a new and exciting school year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Sharon A. Dungee

December 2021

A Message to the Central Islip School Community

"The magic in new beginnings is truly perhaps, the most powerful of all." - Martin, Josiyah. With the New Year of 2022 approaching, we wish you and your family a very happy and healthy holiday season! This is the time of year when we reflect on the previous year. Our school community is comprised of an exceptional team of administrators, teachers, and staff, as well as extremely proud families that support our children's education. It truly does take a village to raise a child, as evidenced by our role model educational team and nurturing parents.

In visiting our schools throughout the week, particularly at this time of year, we are most moved by the humanitarian efforts our students, teachers, and staff undertake to brighten the holidays of some of our less fortunate neighbors. The tiny gestures of kindness go a long way toward brightening the spirit of others. We can't put a price on these attributes because they are priceless.

We want to remind you that the start of our holiday winter concert series is Monday evening. Please check the calendar on the district website.

We wish you a very pleasant holiday season on behalf of the Board of Education, the Administration, Faculty, and Staff by doing so safely and responsibly as we meet with family and friends.

Best Wishes,

 Norman A. Wagner

The late Maya Angelou once said, “Be present in all things and thankful for all things.” This Thanksgiving, I hope you will take the time to recognize the things in your life for which you are most thankful, no matter how big or small. We have all managed another pandemic-affected year, but I hope you share our enthusiasm for the future.
I also want to express my deepest gratitude to the devoted staff and our community for your ongoing support during this unprecedented period in education. The previous experience we all had was unlike any other.
I genuinely hope you are able to enjoy your gatherings and festivities, even if they are smaller or more socially distant than they previously were.
I wish you all a joyful and safe Thanksgiving!

Warmly,

Ms. Dungee

“Kindness is the only service that will stand the storm of life and not wash out. It will wear well and will be remembered long after the prism of politeness or the complexion of courtesy has faded away.” —

Schools will be closed on Thursday, November 11, 2021. The Central Islip Public School District wants to acknowledge and express gratitude to the many men and women who have served in our country's military forces and continue to do so. We commemorate them for their service, sacrifice, and love of country, cognizant of the fact that we, as a nation, go about our daily lives while our military members work diligently to ensure that we can. We appreciate your service.
