Board Policy: Whereas the Central Islip School Board wishes to advance the School District Vision and Mission adopted by administrators, faculty, staff, parents and community members, the Board adopts the Central Islip School District Initiative 2009-2014

The Central Islip School District Initiative 2009-2014: In an effort to serve the needs of students to achieve competitive skills for higher education and employment and to continuously find ways to achieve the Central Islip School District Vision and Mission, we require more precise focus on critical elements of the Vision and Mission. Therefore, we seek to more fully implement the Vision Statement “… to provide each student with fundamental academic skills and basic knowledge, to develop desire for moral, ethical and cultural values, to stimulate a continual learning process and to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of the rights and responsibilities of productive citizens.”

In addition, we seek to more fully implement the Mission Statement that “all students fulfill their potential and become responsible, contributing adults, able to thrive in a culturally diverse, changing world.”

Operational Principles: Each student will be provided with fundamental academic skills and basic knowledge and all students will master the curriculum content for each grade level.

Each student will develop a desire for moral, ethical and cultural values and administrators, faculty and staff will teach and practice civic virtues with students such as honesty, hard work, courage, tolerance and fair play.

Administrators, teachers, staff and students will commit to personal growth dispositions of Innovation, Ambition, Motivation, Courage and Inspiration (IAMCI) and all students, employees and parents will feel a greater sense of belonging to the school community and will celebrate mutual successes.

Each student will commit to continuous learning and all teachers will engage students in higher level cognitive, social and emotional learning and leadership opportunities.

Teachers will use district technology to open new worlds to their students and thus students will thrive in a culturally diverse, changing world.
