Biography:

Jim Musumeci was elected to the Board of Education in 2019. He was subsequently re-elected in 2020 and 2023 to continue serving two three-year terms.

With over two decades working with the United States Postal Service where he attained and held the rank of Local Union President for the Brooklyn New York American Postal Workers for over 21 years until he retired in 2012, Mr. Musumeci brings a specialized level of professionalism, experience and common sense to the Board of Education as he prioritizes the duties of the office: "My priorities are to help implement systems and protocols so that the Board of Education and Administration are consistent with addressing and managing issues within our District." Acknowledging the imperative to develop responsible budget practices and protocols, Mr. Musumeci added, "I am proud to be part of a legacy of keeping taxes down for our Community."

Mr. Musumeci and his wife, Lorraine, are 30-year residents of Central Islip and have two children, both of whom attended Central Islip School District, and are also proud to call Central Islip High School their alma mater. Having a sense of commitment and dedication to Community is important to Mr. Musumeci. Recognizing the importance of promoting good reading habits, he is active in the classrooms accepting invitations as a Guest Reader during the School District's PARP literary-based activities. Mr. Musumeci served as a Section XI Basketball Referee and Community Umpire for 25 years.

Mr. Musumeci said the most rewarding part of serving the Community as a member of the Board of Education is handing out diplomas: "Indisputably, the greatest reward about my role as a School Board member is seeing our children grow into young adults, and watching the pride on their faces during Graduation and Moving Up Ceremonies as they accept their diplomas and certificates. That's the bottom line as the Board of Education serves our School Community."
