Biography

Glenn C. Mitchell first took office to the Board of Education in July of 2016. He was subsequently re-elected to serve two 3-year terms in 2019, and in 2022. On May 20, 2025, Mr. Alcantara was re-elected to the Board of Education to serve another 3-year term.

A 50-year resident of Central Islip, Mr. Mitchell and his wife, Isabelle, have four children, all graduates of Central Islip High School after successfully completing kindergarten through twelfth grades. They have two grandchildren. 

Mr. Mitchell's priority as a member of the Board of Education is to bring a clear vision to education with a focus on providing learning experiences for every student to succeed and become productive members of society. He works collaboratively with the members of the Board of Education and Central Administration to create positive learning experiences in a safe and inspiring environment. "My primary objectives are to establish a strong educational foundation and safe school environment, while maintaining a fiscally responsible budget for the Central Islip School Community," Mr. Mitchell noted.

Mr. Mitchell enjoys attending winter and spring concerts, sports games, high school theatre productions, special events, moving up and awards ceremonies, and high school Commencement. He is an avid volunteer with Central Islip High School's PTSA. Mr. Mitchell puts his culinary talents to work when he volunteers as a behind-the-scenes chef for Breakfast with Santa, as well as flipping burgers and turning hot dogs during home football games, and most recently, volunteering for the Senior Class Barbecue.
