Biography

Michele Harriott won her inaugural bid for election to the Board of Education in May of 2014. She was subsequently re-elected in 2017, 2020 and 2023 to serve consecutive three-year terms.

Mrs. Harriott and her husband, Livingstone, are 30-year residents of Central Islip. They have three children who attended CI Schools from grades kindergarten through twelfth, and are now proud to call Central Islip High School their alma mater.

Mrs. Harriott serves on the Board of Education's Audit Committee. She chairs the Alumni Committee (which launched FASFA Night and The Perfect You workshops), giving students and their families insight into the college financial aid process, and engaging in mock college and job interviews in preparation for presenting their best selves for real life opportunities.

Mrs. Harriott's priorities are to provide Central Islip School District with solid educational programs, and sound financial budgeting: "My priorities are to ensure a high level of education for our students; to provide programs which will better equip students with the skills needed to achieve their goals in our demanding global environment; to have our students become effective citizens of our community locally and at-large; and to approve sustainable and fiscally responsible budgets for our community."

What Mrs. Harriott said she finds most rewarding as a School Board member is "seeing students energized at College Fair Day, seeing them at High School and College Graduations, and when they return to let us know how they are doing and what they have accomplished." Mrs. Harriott added, "I also like to see students give back to their community." She also enjoys participating in the District's PARP activities as a Guest Reader to promote literacy and encourage a love of reading.

Mrs. Harriott's community affiliates include First United Methodist Church of CI where she is Treasurer of the Amninistrative Board, Youth Leader, and a member of the Finance and Memorial Committees. Over the years, Mrs. Harriott has been a staunch supporter of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, CI Little League, PAL, CI Soccer, PTA, Islip Branch NAACP, and I AM CI Foundation.
