Reed 8th Grade Concert Showcases Choral, Instrumental Talent

Reed Middle School hosted its second spring concert in as many days on Tuesday night as friends and family packed the auditorium for the 8th grade chorus and band performance at 7 p.m.

The jazz ensemble, conducted by Peter Ingoglia, began the evening with two entertaining pieces: “Blues Machine” by Michael Sweeney, which featured solos from all trumpets, Jorge Jacinto on trombone, and Jayden Jean Baptiste on saxophone; and “Flat Tire Shuffle” by Dean Sorenson, with a solo from Adolfo Guerrero on trumpet.

Elizabeth Giglio, 8th grade chorus teacher, led her students through five songs: “Seven Bridges Road” by Stephen Young, “The Tiger” by William Blake with music by Sherri Porterfield, “I See Colors” by Pinkzebra, “Sound the Trumpet” by Henry Purcell and arranged by Earlene Rentz, and the “Les Misérables Chorus Medley” arranged by Roger Emerson.

Finally, Mr. Ingoglia returned to the stage with his 8th grade band to conduct three final numbers: “American Legion March” by Charlie Parker/Glover, “Lament and Tribal Dances” by Michael Sweeney, and “Majestia” by James Swearingen.
