Welcome to the 2026 Senior Spotlight series! This weekly feature will run every week until Central Islip High School's graduation ceremonies. Enjoy!

Senior Spotlight: Leah Bharat

Activities, Clubs & Leadership Roles:
President of Future Nurses of America Club; Stage Right Wing Lead in Stage Crew; National Honor Society; Peer Leadership Club.

Most Meaningful Activity:
Stage Crew has meant the most to me because it gave me a sense of responsibility. I learned teamwork, confidence, and mentorship behind the scenes. It showed me the value of hard work and supporting my peers in our projects.

Plans After Graduation:
After graduation, I have committed to Binghamton University to major in biology and then plan on attending medical school.

Future Career Goals:
I plan to study biomedical sciences and pursue a pre-med track. As a career, I aim to become a pathologist specializing in forensics or hematopathology.

Staff Member Recognition:
Dr. Thomas Courtney—Dr. Courtney was my Living Environment teacher during my freshman year at CI, and he has been in my corner ever since. Even if I hadn’t seen him in a while, he was always a friendly face I could talk to and confide in.

Role Model / Inspiration:
I think I’m inspired by myself. Specifically, I’m inspired by the person I can become if I put in the effort and the time. The life I can make for myself keeps me moving forward.

What Central Islip Means to Me:
Being part of Central Islip means that I get to be part of a community that has strong relationships and connections with one another. My teachers and friends have always been there to support me.

Proudest Accomplishment:
One accomplishment that I am most proud of during my high school career is a simple one: everything I was able to balance. Throughout high school, I juggled academics and extracurricular activities, learning how to manage my time effectively at an early age. It was not always easy, but this experience taught me how to stay organized and prioritize responsibilities.

Advice to Underclassmen:
I would tell underclassmen what my mom has always told me: “It may seem impossible until you start.” I struggled with procrastination in high school and often felt overwhelmed, but I learned that sometimes you just need to begin.
