Musketeer Monday: Zakaiy Alexander

Meet O'Neill Elementary School fifth grade student Zakaiy Alexander, this week’s featured Musketeer Monday spotlight!

Zakaiy hasn’t missed a single day of school this year, earning him a perfect 100% attendance record. He explained why he enjoys coming to school so much: “I like to come to school because I get to see my friends, I learn stuff, and my mom said attendance is important.”

Zakaiy participates in a variety of school-related activities, including intramurals and chorus, and he plays saxophone in the school band. He recently completed the year as a member of O'Neill's safety patrol team and is eagerly anticipating his new role as captain of the school safety patrol in September.

Outside of school, Zakaiy takes martial arts classes. A proud blue belt, he’s excited to test for his purple belt this October.

Zakaiy enjoys giving all his teachers high-fives, including his current teacher, Mrs. Maguire. He gives special shout-outs to Mrs. Tran and his principal, Mrs. LoCascio.

He’s also especially fond of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee, saying, “Dr. Dungee is amazing because she does a good job to keep us educated, and she makes school fun.”

With a big smile, Zakaiy shared that his favorite holiday is Christmas because he gets presents, and his favorite colors are blue and green.

At home, Zakaiy is a big help to his mom, especially with his two younger brothers, ages 3 and 2. “My mom is very caring when it comes to education and health,” he added.

School social worker Mrs. Melanie Tran shared her thoughts about Zakaiy: “Zakaiy is empathetic and kind. He is an outstanding O’Neill student—strong in both academics and character. He is kind to his peers, always looking out for others, and he is extremely involved in the O’Neill school community. He is an exemplary role model.”

Zakaiy said he is very proud to have been selected as one of this week’s Musketeers!
