Musketeer Monday Form

Musketeer Monday Part One: Heather Baron, Special Education Teacher, Morrow Elementary School

Q: School / Grade / Subject(s) Taught / Area of Work
A: Morrow School speech teacher. I push in for group life skills speech classes as well as pull out for mandated services.

Q: How many years of experience in education / teaching / current field do you have?
A: 33 years of experience as a speech pathologist.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in education (or your current field)?
A: An interest in the diversity of the many ways a speech pathologist can help people of all ages—not just articulation therapy, but also language, voice, and oral motor components.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of this school/district community?
A: Pushing into classrooms to teach speech and really getting to know all of the children from each grade.

Q: What do you consider the most rewarding part of your job?
A: Seeing the children make measurable gains with a smile.

Q: What are a few memorable moments you’ve had with students or colleagues?
A: Supervising, working with, and collaborating with my amazing team of speech teachers.

Q: Please list a teacher or staff member that has made a positive impact on you in this district and explain why.
A: Retired teacher assistant Mrs. Alpers. She lives by the idea of showing up your best, being gracious, and enjoying what you are doing. For me, she did not just say it—she modeled it.

Q: What’s your favorite event or tradition in our schools?
A: Catch Someone Doing Something Kind.

Q: Where did you grow up / go to school?
A: Born and raised in Queens, NY. I attended St. Francis Prep High School and Hofstra University for both my undergraduate and graduate work.

Q: Do you have a favorite book, movie, or TV show? Tell us about them.
A: My favorite movie is The Wizard of Oz. It’s Oprah’s favorite, too!

Q: Do you have a favorite quote or motto you live by?
A: Like Nike: “Just do it.”

Q: What are some activities you do in your spare time outside of school?
A: Strength training, yoga, and hiking in upstate New York.

Q: If you could have dinner with any historical figure or celebrity, who would it be?
A: I am fascinated by the work of Eckhart Tolle and would love to pick his brain over dinner.

Q: If you weren’t in education or the field you're in now, what career would you choose?
A: I would be an attorney. I would advocate for change.

Q: What’s one thing on your bucket list (travel, skill, experience)?
A: Being asked to give a motivational speech for a TED Talk. Travel-wise, spending Christmas in Europe with my entire family.
