Musketeer Monday Part One: Egypt Young, 12th Grade, Central Islip High School

Q: What is your favorite subject in school, and why?
A: My favorite subject in school is biology. I love learning more about different forms of life as well as how they affect us.

Q: Are you involved in any school activities or clubs? If so, which ones?
A: NHS, SNHS, FBLA, Yearbook, Action Committee, Senior Class, Varsity Club, Badminton, C.I.M.B., and Tennis.

Q: Have you ever taken on a leadership role at school (e.g., Safety Patrol, Student Council)? Please describe your experience.
A: Yes, I have leadership roles in Girls Tennis as captain, Yearbook Club as treasurer, and Varsity Club as president. Being in these clubs has helped me become a more vocal and outgoing person when coordinating events, as well as more connected with fellow students in the high school.

Q: Have you received any awards, honors, or special recognition? Tell us about them.
A: I have received the Athletic Scholar Award for Varsity Tennis, and I have been on the honor roll every year of high school.

Q: Do you participate in any activities outside of school (e.g., community theater, sports)? Please explain.
A: I participate in volunteer events outside of school such as back-to-school rallies for the community.

Q: Have you ever been involved in any activities or hobbies in the past that were meaningful to you?
A: During middle school, I was a part of a dance club that performed in events such as the Black History Month performance and the school talent show.

Q: Who are your biggest role models in school or outside of school?
A: My biggest role models would definitely be the teachers that I am around every day. They encourage me to follow my dreams and even give me advice on how I can do so.

Q: What qualities do you believe make someone a good leader or role model in school?
A: What makes someone a good role model in school would definitely be confidence. Confidence gives you the power to use your voice when needed and the ability to communicate with others. Confidence is like the foundation of becoming a good leader.

Q: How do you contribute to creating a positive environment at your school?
A: I contribute to creating a positive environment in my school by being a friendly person. If someone is feeling down or in need of a friend, they can always come to me.

Q: Please list a teacher or staff member who has made a positive impact on you. Explain why.
A: A teacher that has made a positive impact on me would be Coach Hopkins. Not only has she shaped me as an athlete, but she has also prepared me for the future. She has been someone I can speak to about current events in my life and when planning for the future, which is something I am very grateful for.

Q: What is your favorite part about your school?
A: My favorite part about my school is how the different clubs and sports bring the students together. Strong friendships were made through these activities, which is something very special.

Q: What are some activities you do in your spare time outside of school?
A: Outside of school, I like to spend my spare time baking and trying out different recipes.

Q: What’s your favorite book, movie, or TV show right now? Why?
A: My favorite show at the moment is the reality show Survivor. This show is a childhood classic that I have been watching throughout the years and truly love. It focuses on using both your strength, endurance, and mind to succeed — something I strongly believe in.

Q: How would your friends describe you?
A: My friends would describe me as having a bright and bubbly personality when I am hanging out with them.

Q: What does being a good classmate or friend mean to you?
A: To be a good classmate or friend, you must be true to yourself. We are all different, and embracing our differences is what makes us unique and true to who we are.
