Mulvey Superintendents Council Meets with Special Guest

Students on Dr. Sharon A. Dungee's Superintendent's Council at Mulvey Elementary School received a visit from a local hero on Thursday morning from Mr. Dennis Solares, Central Islip School District messenger and captain of the Central Islip Fire Department Engine Hose Company No. 1.

Mr. Solares was asked to tell the story of his recent act of heroism where he entered a burning home to rescue two Central Islip residents in the middle of his shift at the district's administration building. 

"I looked across the street and saw there was a fire, so without thinking, I went to the home and ended up going in to save who was inside," Mr. Solares said.

One student part of the council, Christopher, expressed interest in becoming a firefighter when he is older and was able to draw inspiration from Solares this morning.

News 12 Long Island was on hand to capture the meaningful moment for both the students and Mr. Solares, who happened to be visiting Mulvey on his birthday.
