July 2026 Board of Education Synopsis

The July 7, 2026, Board of Education meeting was preceded by the Annual Reorganization Meeting, during which newly elected Board Members Mrs. Leida Morales and Mr. Jeff Rosado took their oaths of office. Also at the meeting, Mrs. Michele Harriott was elected President of the Board, and Ms. Debra Cavanagh was elected Vice President.

The newly appointed student ex officio school board members are Central Islip High School seniors Miss Camila Barzola and Mr. Denys Hernandez Mena. The students will attend Board of Education meetings as liaisons between the student body and the Board of Education, bringing firsthand student perspectives to the district. They will represent the voice of the student body by communicating student views and reporting on high school activities and curricular impacts.

Following all appointments by the Board of Education, School Attorney Kevin A. Seaman, Esq., administered the respective oaths of office.

The Board of Education made several additional professional appointments, including new teachers, administrators, support staff, coaching, and athletic positions. The Board also reviewed and adopted several policies pertaining to free meal service, student attendance, eligibility for extracurricular activities, virtual blended and remote learning, and charging for school meals.

Mrs. Harriott announced that Board of Education meetings for the 2026-2027 school year are scheduled as follows:

• June 7
• July 6

All Board of Education meetings will be held in the Alfano School Multi-Purpose Room and will begin at 7:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted.

The next meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for August 3, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alfano School Multi-Purpose Room, 50 Wheeler Road, Central Islip.
