Dr. Dungee Visits Mr. Joseph Cornell's Tech Class at Reed

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee recently met with students in Mr. Joseph Cornell's Full Year Technology Class. Mr. Cornell's students briefed Dr. Dungee on each of the projects they completed this year. The hands-on projects encouraged research and teamwork, with end results culminating in student-created projects that enhance their school environment. 

Projects included:

• A security desk in the lobby to accommodate a computer and school safety officers' work materials. Students prepared a blueprint that was approved by school safety officers.

• Students also built a storage system and table that now replace the desk that previously occupied this space. This storeage system and table streamline the aesthetics of the lobby and provide organization.

• Also in the front lobby is a meticulously built laminated oak tag display that contains bell schedules. Students used a CNC machine to cut the custom sign.

• Students utilized an AZEK trimmer to build sets of customized corn hole boards which Mr. Cornell explained are designed to last for several years.

• In the connecting corridor to the new wing, students designed and built custom heater covers in purple and gold which replace aging metal covers. The new heat covers give a clean, streamlined aesthetic along the corridor.

Impressed by the designs, after each presentation, Dr. Dungee asked questions about the projects, and told students that their contributions to Reed Middle School by way of their projects will have a lasting, positive impact on their school.
