Cordello Students Treated to Special Black History Month Assembly

Jamel Coy Hudson, Ph.D., a lecturer, professor, and rhetorician at CUNY Baruch College and Hofstra University, led a Black History Month assembly for the students of Cordello Elementary School on Friday.

Dr. Hudson is no stranger to Central Islip. His mother, Dr. Tracy Hudson, served as principal at both Mulligan Elementary School and Reed Middle School at one point in time.

His assembly held the theme, “A Musical Journey Into Black History,” where he sang multiple songs like, “My Girl,” “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” and “Buffalo Soldier.”

Dr. Hudson spoke about Carter G. Woodson, who is known as the Father of Black History Month for his efforts in creating this celebration while earning a doctoral degree at Harvard University in 1926.
