Central Islip Library Unveils Recent Improvements

A celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony was held to mark the unveiling of a series of newly completed capital projects at Central Islip Public Library. Library Director Tara Kohles announced energy, efficiency, renovations, and interior renovations projects that include: an HVAC system, solar panels, four new meeting spaces, a new teen tech center, a renovated adult area, new computer lab, a local and black history collection room, and upgraded restrooms.

Director Kohles was joined by Library Board President Eileen Santangelo, Library Board Vice President Dr. Sharon A. Dungee, Library Board Secretary Dunia Mars, and Library Board Trustees Leida Morales and Lisa Hunter to welcome New York State Assembly Deputy House Speaker Philip Ramos, New York State Senator Monica Martinez, and Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez.

Members of the Central Islip High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Music Teacher and Band Director Kevin Pyle provided background ambiance with selections from their repertoire.

To open the ceremony, Central Islip High School Senior, Gabriella Castro, sang her beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner. The ceremony was well attended by the local and greater communities including local veterans, Kevin A. Seaman, Esq., members of Central Islip Fire Department, Central Islip School District Clerk Denise Ridgeway, Youth Enrichment Services, CI Civic Council, students and their families, and retired CISD principals, teachers and support staff.

Mrs. Kohles thanked the library staff and community for their patience while the library was undergoing extensive renovations.
