Alfano Celebrates All Cultures on Wednesday

Families lined up outside Alfano Elementary School ahead of Wednesday evening’s Multicultural Night, eagerly anticipating an exciting event. The program featured a variety of performances from students, parents, and faculty members throughout the Central Islip School District.

Mrs. Carmen Vazquez welcomed attendees before handing the microphone to Iyala Wilson, who read a poem written by her father titled “Sister.”

Musical performances followed, as Alfano's chorus, led by Ms. Zara, performed What a Wonderful World, and Ms. Burgess' music club played the traditional Russian folk song Kalinka.

Ms. Cabanillas' pre-kindergarten students sang Hello, Goodbye Around the World and made the entire gymnasium smile with their talents.

The rest of the evening was highlighted by dances, including Huayño, a Peruvian dance performed by Cindy and Samantha Romero; a hip-hop routine by Camila Martinez Rodriguez and Gallalea Hernandez; and three numbers by Diversity School of Dance: “Lil Gangsta” by Anastasia Lewis, “Jump!” by Daniel Colon and Liam Lewis, and “What Jumka.”

Adrian and Sofia Vargas performed an El Salvadoran dance called El Sombrero Azul, while Hailey Sanchez and her partner Cayden Jaldes danced to Copacabana.

The night concluded with a performance by Alfano's step team, led by Mrs. Taveras-Bradley, featuring students Kissany Almonte, Mia Armand, Luccie Jean Baptiste, Raine Davis, Chelsea Gomez-Marquez, Daniela Estrella Ortega, Abigail Morel, Evanyeli Sierra, Sophia Solares, and Amiyra Williams.
