A Message from Dr. Dungee - Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Dear Central Islip Families,

January 19, 2026, marks the 40th anniversary of the official observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday.

The message of this civil rights icon for peacefully achieving justice and equality has inspired a global movement where people are judged by character, not color or religion.

We are proud of the rich cultural heritage and ethnic diversity that define our Central Islip Community. Throughout the hallways, classrooms, athletic fields and stages in our school district, our staff promotes and encourages kindness towards others, and acceptance of each others' differences that our students grow to emulate.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have turned 97 on January 15th, and his legacy lives on as powerfully today as it did when he delivered his iconic 'I Have a Dream' speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. on August 28th, 1963. It was here when  Dr. King told a mass of over 200,000 people: " . . . I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed. We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As beneficiaries of Dr. King's legacy, we invite you to join the Board of Education, Administration, Faculty and Staff in passing his message to our children so that future generations will be inspired by his words. Enjoy your holiday.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sharon A. Dungee
