Musketeer Monday: Vincent Ruggiero
He is an extraordinarily talented teacher and mentor who sets a platinum standard of professionalism, with his influence reaching new teachers districtwide. Learn more about Mr. Vincent Ruggiero in this week’s edition of Musketeer Monday!
Mr. Ruggiero began his career in September 1990 as a seventh-grade teacher at Ralph G. Reed Middle School.
Now serving as District Mentor, Mr. Ruggiero’s responsibilities include providing new teachers with professional support, using Danielson’s four domains as a foundation for their guidance. “Along with my partner, Audrey Marzocca, I assist first- and second-year teachers through professional period meetings, after-school group workshops, cohort training sessions, individual conferences, and instructional advice on effective classroom practices and decision-making,” Mr. Ruggiero explained.
Reflecting on the rewards of his work, Mr. Ruggiero shared, “My position has so many rewarding elements. For me, the most important aspect is knowing that each teacher in the Mentoring and Instructional Program will have a profound and lasting impact on the students of Central Islip for decades to come.”
Outside of school, Mr. Ruggiero’s interests remain connected to student progress. “September not only welcomes a new class of first-year teachers, but it also marks the start of the college football season. I enjoy spending some time on Saturdays in the fall and winter watching college football. The college game offers a unique perspective of student-athletes developing their potential, striving for personal and team achievements, such as the Heisman Trophy, NCAA Bowl Games, College Football Playoffs, and NFL Draft Day,” he shared.
Mr. Ruggiero also highlighted the camaraderie throughout Central Islip schools. “The Central Islip School District has established a level of excellence for community spirit and school camaraderie. It is a positive culture initiated years ago by Superintendent Dr. Sharon A. Dungee, who prioritized the well-being, respect, and sense of belonging for all members of our district and school community. Dr. Dungee has set a standard for other districts across the state to follow.”
Expanding on the district’s atmosphere, he continued, “You only need to walk into any school building in Central Islip, and you will immediately feel that sense of welcoming camaraderie. It continues to grow and thrive every school year—it is truly unmatched.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee praised Mr. Ruggiero: “Mr. Ruggiero is an exceptional teacher, mentor, and role model for our new teachers. In partnership with Ms. Marzocca, he demonstrates an exemplary work ethic, playing a pivotal role in helping new teachers navigate the complexities of the profession. His mentoring expertise helps them develop strong instructional practices and effective classroom management strategies. His influence on our new teachers will have a positive, lasting impact on generations of students. Personally and professionally, Mr. Ruggiero has been an inspiration to me, always offering insightful and sound advice.”
Dr. Dungee added, “Central Islip is extremely fortunate to consider Mr. Ruggiero a member of our school family.”
