Musketeer Monday Part Two: Jason Schafer

Meet Jason Schafer, whom the Central Islip School District is proud to feature in this week's Musketeer Monday!

Mr. Schafer is one of the first faces to offer you a friendly greeting upon entering Cordello Elementary School. He began his career in the Central Islip School District as a guard in 2011. Over the years, he has worked in all district buildings, predominantly at Mulligan Elementary School, before coming to Cordello.

Mr. Schafer's primary responsibility is to keep everyone safe, and he explains some of his numerous duties: "My work partner, Mr. Jean, and I both check to make sure all the exterior doors are locked and secured during the day. We man the front door (main entrance), check in all visitors and guests, and issue badges to everyone who enters our school building. I keep everyone safe when they're arriving at and leaving school for the day. You can see me standing outside when the buses are arriving and leaving to make sure that everyone is safe."

Mr. Schafer said he takes pride in seeing the students as they arrive at school daily. "I love seeing all kids happy and excited to come to school. That's the best part of my job," he commented.

When he's away from his post at Cordello and off duty, Mr. Schafer enjoys taking walks with his wife, Melissa. "Melissa and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary this past October, and we just bought our first house this year," he proudly shared. Mr. Schafer loves watching sci-fi and action movies, with his absolute favorites being Star Wars and Marvel movies.

Mr. Schafer grew up in the Central Islip community and attended elementary school and Reed Middle School until seventh grade, when his family moved into the William Floyd School District. He graduated from William Floyd High School in 2002.

Cordello Elementary School Principal Dr. Nathaniel Marner praised Mr. Schafer's dedication. "We are so very fortunate to have School Safety Guard Jason Schafer as a member of the Cordello School Family," Dr. Marner said. "Mr. Schafer is the consummate professional who is always very positive. He is pleasant to all who visit our school, and he always puts the safety and security of our students and staff first. Thank you, Mr. Schafer, for a job well done!"

Congratulations to Mr. Jason Schafer as he shines in this week's Musketeer Monday Spotlight!
