Musketeer Monday: Juan Gallardo

Central Islip High School senior Juan Gallardo is featured in this week's Musketeer Monday spotlight.

Juan is deeply involved in school activities, excelling beyond maintaining his academic schedule. He is a proud drum major for the Central Islip High School Marching Band, an enthusiastic member of the Math Club, and will play trumpet with the Pit Orchestra alongside his music colleagues in the upcoming all-school stage production of Shrek the Musical! Reflecting on this past holiday season, Juan fondly recalls the school spirit shared by musicians and audiences alike as instrumentalists from the Central Islip High School Marching Band took their show on the road for the annual district-wide festive sing-along.

Juan’s school involvement doesn’t stop there—he helped his classmates design the Senior Class Float and actively contributes to raising funds for the highly anticipated Senior Prom!

When reflecting on significant inspirations during his high school career, Juan highlighted Band Teacher Mr. Ryan and English Teacher Mrs. Schmalacker. “Mrs. Schmalacker cares about her students, and she is a comforting presence in school,” Juan said, adding, “Mr. Ryan truly loves what he’s doing here, and he genuinely cares about his students.” Outside of school, Juan credits his older sister, Isis, a Central Islip High School alumna, and his father as his inspirations. Coming from a family of six siblings, Juan shared, “My dad is so supportive of us all.”

Central Islip High School Principal Mr. Eric Haruthunian describes Juan as a model student: “Juan shows respect for his teachers and staff, and he is kind and courteous to his peers. As a drum major, Juan demonstrates his ability to be an exemplary team player, always putting his bandmates ahead of himself.” Supporting this testimonial, a humbled Juan humorously remarked, “I don’t think I’m the best thing, but I feel honored that my bandmates elected me to be drum major alongside Alexandra Othman. It means a lot to me, and I’m very humbled.”

Congratulations to Juan Gallardo on this well-deserved recognition!
