Message from the Superintendent - November 2024

Dear Central Islip School Community and Neighbors,

With Thanksgiving upon us, and Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa right around the corner, we want to take this time to wish our friends and neighbors a safe and lovely holiday.

As we prepare to gather with loved ones on Thanksgiving to celebrate our blessings, let us also remember our less fortunate neighbors. To that end, we want to share the pride that we feel in our students, guided by their teachers, school administrators and staff, who are planning acts of kindness by conducting food and clothing drives. This will ensure that many local families and neighbors here in the proud hamlet of Central Islip will have a memorable Thanksgiving to celebrate and enjoy. We are so very proud of the traditional acts of kindness and innovative initiatives by our students and all staff that will put smiles on the faces of our neighbors on Thanksgiving Day and throughout this holiday season.

Equally as impressive is the fact that our school family possesses a keen awareness that human need does not exist exclusively during the holidays. Therefore, they continually engage in unselfish acts of giving throughout the year, setting stellar examples as role models for their peers in other fine communities to emulate.

In the meantime, if you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity or a need for warm clothing, we encourage you to feel comfortable to reach out to your child’s school principal for guidance.

The following quote by Roy T. Bennett is particularly pertinent during this time of the year: “Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness of people.”

On behalf of the Board of Education, the Superintendent’s Office, administrators, faculty, staff and students, we wish you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving holiday.

Warmest wishes,

Dr. Sharon A. Dungee

Superintendent of Schools

Mr. Luis Alcantara, President

Board of Education
