Central Islip Mourns the Loss of Colonel Jack Cassidy

It is with profound respect and sadness that we announce the passing of Colonel Jack Cassidy, a distinguished former Principal of Reed Junior High, decorated war hero, and beloved community figure. In his honor, the flag at Reed flies at half-mast as we remember a man who dedicated his life to both his country and his community.

Born and raised in Central Islip, Colonel Cassidy leaves behind a legacy of bravery, service, and leadership. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and became a member of an elite reconnaissance unit. His courage and leadership were exemplified when he led a daring raid that freed South Vietnamese soldiers from a Vietcong POW camp. For his heroic actions, Colonel Cassidy was awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, and numerous other U.S. and foreign decorations.

Upon returning home, Colonel Cassidy continued his service—this time, to his community. For over three decades, he worked as an educator and administrator in Central Islip. He was a dedicated teacher, a mentor as a coach, and for 20 years, he served as the esteemed Principal of Reed Junior High School, leaving an indelible mark on countless students and staff.

Colonel Jack Cassidy’s life was one of exceptional service to both his country and the Central Islip community. His contributions will never be forgotten, and his memory will continue to inspire generations.
