Central Islip High School Welcomes Mr. Erin Posner as Assistant Principal
The Central Islip School District is proud to announce the addition of Mr. Erin Posner to Central Islip High School as assistant principal.
Born and raised in Queens, Mr. Posner graduated from Saint Francis Preparatory School in Fresh Meadows and subsequently attended Queens College, where he majored in English and English Literature.
Originally, he began as an English teacher at Maspeth High School. There, he was approached by the dean’s office to assist with discipline, which began his interest in working in administration.
“My first year I was approached by our administration, and I thought, ‘this could be a good path to follow,” Posner said. “As years progressed, I spent more time in the dean’s office than a classroom, so that’s when I realized I wanted to become a principal.”
Mr. Posner joins CI from John Jay High School in East Fishkill, N.Y., where he served as an assistant principal for over a year.
When he spoke about the Central Islip community, Erin began to speak about what he has noticed since beginning his new position.
“Everyone here is so welcoming and makes you feel right at home,” he said. “It’s a home-grown community. I’ve heard from so many faculty and staff that they grew up here and graduated here. You can tell that everyone here is so invested in the students.”
He hopes to foster an environment where students feel they can be around a relatable leader.
“Relationships are cornerstone of success in education. Kids want to be around people that they can relate to, so that’s what I hope to bring here.”
In his spare time, he enjoys reading, playing hockey, going to the gym and cheering on his New York Rangers.
The board of education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee, administration, faculty, staff, and community congratulate Mr. Erin Posner on his new role of assistant principal at Central Islip High School.
