A Letter from Dr. Dungee - Black History Month

Dear Central Islip Community,

“We must never forget that Black History is American History. The achievements of African Americans have contributed to our nation’s greatness.” –Yvette Clarke, U.S. Congresswoman.

As we enter February, I’m honored to celebrate Black History Month with you – a time to honor the profound contributions of Black individuals throughout history and within our diverse community. This month reminds us of the resilience, creativity and excellence that have shaped our nation and inspired us to work toward a more inclusive future.

Our schools will commemorate this month with events like assemblies, art exhibits and performances that highlight the achievements and stories of the Black community. These celebrations are about reflection, learning and fostering dialogue that strengthens our shared commitment to equity and inclusion.

Together, we are creating a brighter future where every student feels seen, valued and empowered to succeed!

With Kindness,

Dr. Sharon Dungee
Superintendent of Schools
