Cordello Student Places First in Town of Islip Contest
Yisel A. Moran Yanes, a Cordello third grader, placed 1st in the fourth annual Town of Islip Virtual Earth Day Poster Contest and was honored by town executives on Thursday, May 8. Her art work will be displayed at Town Hall West in Islip.
A total of 244 students submitted posters and only six were honored at the ceremony on Thursday. Students were asked to express their knowledge in recycling and use the information on their poster boards to inspire others and influence them to recycle.
Moran Yanes was joined by her family; Dr. Sharon A. Dungee, superintendent of schools; Dr. Nathaniel Marner, Cordello principal: Mrs. Yenifer Mercado, assistant principal; and Mrs. Laura Indelicato, Cordello art teacher.
