Personnel of the United States Marine Corps flew two helicopters onto the athletic fields behind Central Islip High School, to the amazement of hundreds of students, faculty and staff. Also on hand to welcome the Marines were Superintendent of Schools Dr. Howard M. Koenig, School Board Vice President Michele Harriott, and School Board Members Daniel Devine, Fred Philips and Glenn C. Mitchell. Central Islip High School Principal Brett MacMonigle announced the Marines as they were making their entrance. Upon landing the helicopters, students, faculty, staff, administrators and school board members spoke with the Marines and toured the interior of the helicopters. Marines responded to numerous questions posed by students and adults who wanted to learn more about their duties. As Memorial Day approaches, members of the Central Islip School District and Central Islip Community salute our heroes past and present for the sacrifices they make for America's freedom.
