Reed students participated in a project to walk to save lives under the UNICEF Kid Power Program. Students participating in this activity received power bands which tracked the distances they walked daily. As they walked, students earned points which translated into lifesaving therapeutic nutrition packets which UNICEF is donating to severely malnourished children. Besides fostering a desire to walk to be fit students have been active leaders in this movement as they make efforts to become global citizens focusing on activities for the environment, their community, speaking, reading, listening and writing. Congratulating students on their positive efforts were Superintendent of Schools Dr. Howard M. Koenig, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Sharon A. Dungee, Reed Middle School Principal Matthew Matera, Reed Literacy Coach Georgina Hernandez, Classroom Teacher Alex Luciano, Social Worker Intern Christopher Carlozzo and UNICEF Kid Power Coordinator Sanjula Singhal.
