With the school's gymnasium decorated in red white and blue flags, banners and streamers as the backdrop for their salute, Morrow Elementary School Principal Dr. Neema Coker welcomed special guests, Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Islip Town Councilman John Cochrane, Jr. Joining the Morrow Elementary Family were Superintendent of Schools Dr. Howard M. Koenig, School Board President Norman A. Wagner and School Board members William G. Softy, Glenn C. Mitchell and Jim Musumeci. Following recitations about the history of the American Flag, the Morrow Elementary Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Majeski, sang songs of Americana and the Morrow Band, under the direction of Ms. Valverde play patriotic music as 4th Grade Music Club, led by Advisor Mr. Paradine, marched to the music. During a 20 minute question and answer period, Supervisor Carpenter and Councilman Cochrane responded to questions posed by students about government. Flag Day is celebrated each June 14 to commemorate the adoption of the American Flag on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
