image
Tyler Danzy and Adrienne Ming were victorious in the inaugural Town of Islip/Clayton Street Courts Mixed Doubles Tournament. Danzy and Ming defeated Joelmaia Carrasco and Taara Johnson in the finals. The Clayton Street courts have been refurbished due to the combined efforts of the Town of Islip and the Central Islip Civic Council. The entire Recreation Center on Clayton St. has undergone a facelift thanks to the many dedicated members of the Central Islip community. A special thanks goes to Councilman John H. Edwards and his staff, including Parks and Recreation Commissioner Greg Dawson, Recreation Program Coordinator Nancy Howland and USTA Coordinator Sue Kubelle for organizing the inaugural tennis tournament. Also attending the ribbon cutting ceremony were State Senator Brian X. Foley, Town of Islip Supervisor Phil Nolan and Councilmen Christopher D. Bodkin and Steven J. Flotteron. Central Islip High School tennis coaches Roy Pakett and Kevin Donovan, along with Director of Athletics Lawrence S. Philips are to be commended for volunteering their time and expertise. The student-athletes and their parents were instrumental in having the Town of Islip commit to make this an annual event.
