Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Message from Ms. Sharon A. Dungee

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

The Office of Curriculum and Instruction oversees all aspects of district-wide curriculum development and instruction, working in concert with school principals, directors and instructional staff to develop and implement academic and extracurricular programs.

As Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Central Islip School District, it is my responsibility to oversee all aspects of the District’s Instructional Program from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.  I attained my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from SUNY at Old Westbury, and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood as well as a Professional Diploma in School District Administration from Long Island University at C.W. Post. As an advocate for continued education, I am currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education degree in Educational Leadership for Diverse Learning Communities at Molloy College in Rockville Centre.

I served as Principal of both, the Early Childhood Center and Cordello Elementary School, in the Central Islip School District. My extensive background in education provides me with invaluable experience as I embark upon this exciting district-wide endeavor.

An imperative and high priority function that defines my office is to ensure the efficiency of all academic programs. These programs are monitored to measure their effectiveness in order to attain the highest possible level of student achievement.

The goal of our Instructional Program is to continually deliver educational offerings and instruction that challenge intellectual growth while meeting the needs of a diverse community of learners. Every effort is directed toward creating a student-centered learning environment where academic success and the ability for every student at every grade level to achieve his or her personal best is fostered.

Teachers and administrators work diligently to align our curriculum in all content areas with The New York State Common Core Standards. This alignment ensures that our students are poised to meet the standards measured by various New York State Assessments.

With these practices in place, we are confident that as our students graduate, they will be equipped with the necessary tools to choose a path that will help them achieve their goals as they enter into a competitive global society to become successful adults.

I look forward to working with Central Islip School District’s dedicated faculty and staff to promote success for all students.
